DUBAI, 15th March, 2020 (WAM) -- His Excellency Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, inaugurated yesterday evening the art exhibition "Tattarub" at the "Khawla Art Gallery" in the Dubai Design District.
3 Iraqi artists and calligraphers are participating in the exhibition, displaying 32 works of art between the possessions of the late artist Jamil Hamoudi, the artist of classic calligraphy, identified with formation, the artist Muthanna Al-Obeidi, and the creator of geometric designs for calligraphy far from traditional concepts, the artist Wissam Shawkat, in a distinguished combination between these creators in One place to document the rich cultural heritage of Arabic calligraphy and bring it out to wider creative spaces.
Her Highness Sheikha Khawla bint Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, wife of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser - Chairwoman of “Khawla for Art and Culture” - said that the organization of this event confirms the pioneering role of Khawla for Art and Culture as a leading cultural and creative platform to revive the art of Arabic and original calligraphy and shed light on its role As a bridge of civilized communication with different cultures, and its abundance of concepts, values, and aesthetics, where Arabic calligraphy is characterized by a distinctive visual image through which the Arabic language flourished, developed, and interacted with various cultures, languages, and civilizations, to always prove that it contains all the elements of pluralism, diversity, and flexibility, and embodies a language of literature, creativity, science, philosophy, art, and beauty. .
Her Highness emphasized the importance of the exhibition, as it attracts a large number of audiences, young talents, and specialists in the art of Arabic calligraphy, especially since the exhibition embraces a group of Iraqi artists and creators who are distinguished by their artistic and creative history and have a wide experience in the field of Arabic calligraphy, which constitutes an opportunity to enhance communication between the pioneers of this art and the exchange of experiences. And experiments and exploring new ideas to develop the arts of Arabic calligraphy and creativity in it and raise it to a wider global space.
For his part, His Excellency Mohammed Al-Murr said - in a special statement to the Emirates News Agency "WAM" - the art exhibitions hosted by the "Khawla Art Gallery" are characterized by a high level of quality and sophistication, whether they are dedicated to Arabic calligraphy or plastic art of all kinds. Pointing out that the exhibition " Tarabut "is considered one of the most important exhibitions currently organized in the Emirate of Dubai due to the great artistic level enjoyed by the participants, as they are experts and distinguished experiences, as well as the proportion of the exhibited works of a unique high level.
He added that Khawla for Art and Culture, which was founded by Her Highness Sheikha Khawla bint Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, wife of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, has been distinguished by strength and leadership since its inception, due to the great interest that Her Highness attaches to art and encourages it in an elegant, organized and professional manner. She was originally an artist and a calligrapher who loved art. This interest formed a ripe fruit that came to constitute an important addition to the general cultural scene in the country through hosting artists of different nationalities. This marriage between local, Arab and international talents distinguished Khawla Art Gallery from others.
His Excellency stressed the importance of institutions supporting art of all kinds, as developed and high-end countries enjoy great institutional support for their arts, leading to the development of the level of art in general.
For her part, Rayan Hakki, Director of Khawla Art Gallery, told WAM that the “Tattab” exhibition, which will run until the 20th of next April, sheds light on the aesthetics and development of Arabic calligraphy in all its forms (Diwani, classical, Kufic, and other fonts). The artists participating in the Arabic calligraphy in daily life in a new and modern way, in order to attract all segments of society towards the Arabic calligraphy and get to know it in a deeper way.
She explained that the exhibition will witness the holding of workshops for Arabic calligraphy, which will be announced through the “Khawla for Art and Culture” websites on social media, calling on the public, especially students, to visit the exhibition to educate them on the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy and the Arabic language, as well as artists, calligraphers, and even designers.
For his part, the artist Muthanna Al-Obeidi said that his participation in the exhibition comes through 12 artworks, including couplets in which the Thuluth calligraphy and sculpture are combined in a double way, as well as works in which poetic texts are merged, creating a distinctive linear intersection, in addition to works in which paper is used, and others are canvas and cardboard.
Al-Obaidi praised Khawla for Art and Culture, which is taking steady steps towards excellence and leadership, especially that Her Highness Sheikha Khawla Al-Suwaidi is a calligrapher and artist, and this is very important in real culture. He pointed out: “As an Arab and Islamic nation, our pillar is Arabic calligraphy, whether it is classic Or contemporary, or a religious or non-religious text. All these artistic experiences were absorbed by “Khawla for Art and Culture” in terms of high-level organization in order to achieve a real shift in art.
For his part, the artist, Wissam Shawkat, said that his participation in the exhibition is represented by the presentation of 12 artworks that he spent 4 months to implement, centered on presenting Arabic calligraphy in a modern style that approaches plastic art. Khawla for Art and Culture, especially through cultural events and competitions specialized in Arabic calligraphy that she organizes throughout the year, attracted the interest of the rest of the Arab countries towards Arabic calligraphy and revived the spirit in it again.
